Who are We?

The Gerstel Wealth Management Group is an established Investment Advisory team at CIBC Wood Gundy in Toronto. Our mission is to help high net worth professionals, families, and business owners build and preserve wealth for life.

 

Ryan Gerstel, Senior Investment Advisor and Portfolio Manager, founded the Gerstel Wealth Management Group over 20 years ago. Ryan has also contributed to BNN and Sirius XM, covering a variety of topics ranging from financial planning to portfolio management.

 

We want our clients to feel confident in their financial future, which we believe starts from the beginning: with transparency, open communication, and providing value. We charge a flat fee for our comprehensive services, rather than commissions on investment products, which has earned us the trust of our clients - where they can be confident we're always acting in their best interest.

While earning an acceptable rate of return is top of mind, keeping the return you earn is just as important - but often gets overlooked.

 

Keeping the return you earn all starts with a financial plan: analyzing your financial situation to identify opportunities for potential savings or growth. Without a plan, there are many overlooked areas that can deplete your after-tax returns. Some key examples include optimizing your estate, taking advantage of registered accounts, implementing strategies to reduce tax liability, improving cash flow efficiency, and minimizing the impact of emotional decision-making.

 

It's important to proactively identify these areas, as the costs incurred are generally "hidden", meaning they don't show up on your statements. Highlighting these areas in advance allows us to take action and minimize the impact.

Our investment strategies tend to be long-term and conservative in nature, with an emphasis on income-generation, preservation of capital, and long-term growth. While the portfolio value may fluctuate over time, the tangible results are in the form of income to re-invest or support your lifestyle needs, wants, and aspirations.

 

How do We Select Investments?

When assessing new opportunities for your portfolio, we utilize a strict rules-based approach, removing personal bias towards any individual investment - evaluating opportunities strictly from a fundamental and technical perspective.

 

While our selection of asset classes remains consistent across all portfolios, the proportions will vary - to best align with your financial objectives and comfort with taking risk. To determine the optimal portfolio blend for you, we've developed a proprietary modeling system - that allows us to deliver tax-efficient and high-performing portfolios for any desired level of risk.

 

Active Management

Just because you're investing for the future doesn't mean there isn't work to be done today. While your portfolio is constructed in line with our market analysis and expectations, the individual allocations are adjusted on an ongoing basis, to reflect evolving circumstances and market conditions - ultimately de-risking the strategy over your investment horizon.

 

As opposed to a buy-and-hold methodology, our active approach capitalizes on market movements and pricing opportunities presented in the short-term - to take profits on positions that may be overvalued or deploy additional capital when prices are attractive.

Our Commitment to You

At GWM, we pride ourselves in delivering a highly personalized service. We regularly check-in with our clients; remaining up-to-date on their lives is vital to ensure the portfolio strategy reflects their evolving needs.

 

We also provide frequent communications, in the form of e-mail updates, performance reports, and educational brochures, to keep you updated on market conditions, portfolio performance, and relevant changes in the investment strategy. We believe informed clients make better decisions, and building a foundation of knowledge can build confidence and minimize errors - specifically in times of market volatility.

 

Communication, however, is a two way street. While our clients hear from us on a regular and frequent basis, they also know that if they ever need anything, we are only a phone call or email away.
